About
“There will come a day of reckoning.” - Blueskin the Pirate
Admit it. You’re a progressive. You read about politics all of the time, but you find yourself struggling when you get into conversations when any of the following are thrown at you:
- Smaller government (Who wants to be for “big government”?)
- Let the market do its work (Markets are good, right?)
- “Do Nothing Democrats” (They don’t seem to be very effective, do they?)
- The liberal media (Isn’t the “liberal media” owned by corporations?)
Most of the articles you read are about specific issues and do NOT focus on progressive values. For instance, this article talks about the economy and how the Bush administration is creating some of the problems in the economy, but the values that drive the piece are mostly implicit.
Values such as:
- The belief in an economy that is fair for all
- A successful economy is one in which everyone prospers
- A “free market” is one in which people and corporations are on equal footing
- A responsibility to protect shared resources (resources such as parks should be for the benefit of all)
In the face of mass conservative marketing, you need to be able to quickly and clearly articulate or “frame” these values and say “This is what I believe in.” Why? Because stating what you believe in is much more powerful than trying to convince someone that what they believe in is wrong. And you’ll also find that many people have the same beliefs; they just haven’t thought about things this way before.
But let’s face it. You’re busy. You don’t always have the time to read a 20-page paper with 6 references to Noam Chomsky in it. So step inside. This website is about my search to frame and document progressive values by examining what I believe and by looking at ways others have framed the progressive conversation.
Think of it as AM radio for progressives. Enjoy!
